Maureen Newman, of Parish, is one of the recipients of the 2009
Altmar-Parish-Williamstown
Educational Foundation Scholarship. Maureen has always been very
active in her school and community, participating in various clubs and
volunteering in service organizations. Her favorite clubs include
Science Club,
National Honor Society, Yearbook, and Band, and she regularly
volunteers at the Parish
Public Library. Maureen's involvement is a large part of why she
earned the scholarship, which will be applied to her tuition at
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She will be studying
biomedical engineering
and hopes to one day enter the neuroengineering research industry.
Jake Yager of Parish is one of the 2009
Altmar-Parish-Williamstown
Education Foundation Scholarship recipients. Jake was incredibly
active within APW's
arts department - mainly the band program. Jake has participated
in Jazz Band, Concert Band,
Marching Band,
Percussion Ensemble, and
Saxophone Quartet. Jake was also a member of the 2008-2009
National Honor Society. Throughout Jake's
high school career he has worked at several locations doing
various jobs. One particular job was lifeguarding for the
Mexico Tiger Sharks. Jake will be attending OCC for music and
hopes to eventually obtain his doctorate in music education.
